Coorg: The Kashmir of South India

The misty hills that mark the southern borders of Karnataka are covered with acres of stunning lush landscapes. Emerald plantations of coffee and tea and tall forests of teak and sandalwood, scattered hamlets and villages, rolling hills… this is Coorg for you. Also dubbed “Kashmir of South India,” “Scotland of India,” Kodagu or Coorg epitomises the harmony of the old world and its nature around.

If you dig the outdoors, then this one is for you. Take a lazy walk on the less trodden path that winds around and about the rolling hills or gear up for a real trek to the many high peaks around the region. Remember to bring your binoculars if you are interested in bird watching or your fishing gear if angling is what you like. And for the adrenalin junkies there’s also white water rafting.

Major festivals like Keil Poldu ,worship of weapons, Cauvery Shankaramana ,return of the river goddess and the Huttari, harvest festival are a huge draw.
