Basilica of Bom Jesus

Iconic in the Roman Catholic world, the magnificent Basilica of Bom Jesus houses in its premises the mortal remains and the tomb of St Francis Xavier. The legendary missionary St Francis Xavier’s and his voyages in the east became like fables in the Roman Catholic world . His ‘incorrupt’ body is in the monument to the right, in a glass-sided coffin. The ornate main altar has the figure of infant Jesus and above it a large statue of St. Ignatius Loyola, founder of the order of Jesuits. Above is the Holy trinity. The construction of Basilica of Bom Jesus began in 1594 and was completed in 1605, to create an elaborate late-Renaissance structure, fronted by a facade talking about a fine Jesuit structure.
